The Esports (Electronic Sports) phenomenon has become a fundamental element in today’s digital youth culture. Positions in Esports require coordination, communication and organization skills to bring the competitive scene to life. A report by Pricewaterhouse Cooper suggested that the global video game industry is expected to grow to $90.1 billion in 2020. As business opportunities flourish, the industry will create demand for professionals with the right mix of training, passion, and knowledge.

To earn a certificate at UCI Division of Continuing Education, students must complete all required courses with a grade of “C” or better.
This course will introduce students to the inner workings of the sport industry and what makes it unique. As one of the most competitive markets to work in, students will begin acquiring the necessary knowledge and skills to work in sports. Areas of study include governance, finance, event management, marketing and communication, ethical and sociological aspects of sport, and how to get a job in sports. Students will use informational interviews, resume development, and personal site portfolio development as the first step toward working in the sport industry.
As an optional last course and for an additional fee of $2,900, you have the opportunity to apply academic theory and gain practical experience in a variety of businesses and industries for 10 weeks. A research project provides additional training. Also included in the internship is the Résumé Writing and Interviewing Skills workshop.
Students will be placed into a morning (9:00-12:00) or afternoon (13:00-16:00) schedule. Courses in the program are taken consecutively, completing one before proceeding to the next. Schedules are not guaranteed and are subject to change. A final schedule will be provided on the first day of the program.
