ACP International Business Operations & Management

Overview

Businesses and their operations have been greatly impacted by the continued growth in international trade and the growing opportunities for boosting sales, increasing market share and ROI, finding raw materials, and lowering costs in international markets. To compete in the global marketplace, professionals must learn the strategies, policies, norms and technology necessary to conduct international business, develop an overseas customer base and ultimately manage the international business operations. To be successful, business professionals must understand and develop the knowledge and skills necessary to manage the starting, or expansion of, international operations.

Certificate Requirements

To earn a certificate at UCI Division of Continuing Education, students must complete all required courses with a grade of “C” or better.

Curriculum

Leadership Workshop: Understanding Yourself & Your Teams for Better Results

This seminar will discuss using strength based competencies to positively affect your career, your leadership and your teams. We will explore your personal strengths and competencies and how to think about them within your own career. We will also explore how to use competencies in leadership to get the best out of the individual, build effective teams and deliver on your business objectives. Self-assessments will be incorporated and its application to leadership.

International Business Strategy

Examine today’s global marketplace and the opportunities and challenges it presents to international companies. Learn major theories of international trade and their relevance towards economic development, competitive advantage, and strategic implications. Learn how international businesses gain a competitive advantage for their products or services in the dynamic world marketplace.

International Finance

Discover the impact of the international financial markets in today’s global economy. Learn how and why international companies use the four financial markets – stock, bond, foreign exchange, and money – to manage their international financial operations.

International Marketing

Learn the principles of marketing products and services in the international context by analyzing marketing objectives and strategies, research and development, branding, pricing, promotions, channels of distribution, and creating line extensions. Study how lucrative brands are able to successfully market to a variety of cultures through various technologies.

Intercultural Communications and Negotiations

Learn how to manage cultural differences to achieve successful international business outcomes. Explore how communication styles, value systems, beliefs, and organizational structures vary across cultures, as well as how international companies manage, compensate, and motivate workers. Learn to plan, work, and negotiate successfully in the global marketplace.

International Trade and Supply Chain

People in both large and small companies, whether marketing to just one country or globally, need to understand the distribution systems of their target markets. Explore the supply chain including physical transportation, infrastructure, inventory and packaging, customs privileged facilities, developing efficient freight pricings, the role of service providers, and marine cargo insurance.

International Business Planning Capstone

In this capstone course, work in teams to select a product, research and analyze information, develop a marketing strategy, and understand the financial requirements with expected return on investment (ROI) to create an actionable business plan. Deliver a professional presentation of the business plan to peers and instructors as a culmination of the program.

Internships

As an optional last course and for an additional fee of $2,900, you have the opportunity to apply academic theory and gain practical experience in a variety of businesses and industries for 10 weeks. A research project provides additional training. Also included in the internship is the Résumé Writing and Interviewing Skills workshop.

Schedule

Students will be placed into a morning (9:00-12:00) or afternoon (13:00-16:00) schedule. Courses in the program are taken consecutively, completing one before proceeding to the next. Schedules are not guaranteed and are subject to change. A final schedule will be provided on the first day of the program.

Certificate tuition: $7,900*
*A 33% tuition discount will be applied for spring and summer 2021 quarters. Apply now and we will also waive the $200 application fee for the next 50 students.
