The IGSPP Fundamentals Track offers international post-baccalaureate students the opportunity to develop a graduate school application plan and improve required academic test scores while achieving the academic English necessary to successfully complete a U.S. graduate program.

Participants can expect the following results upon completion of the IGSPP Fundamentals Track:

  • Enter one of the IGSPP content tracks (IGSPP - ACP Track or IGSPP - ACCESS Track) for further development and preparation that will lead to admission to higher-level master's programs.
  • Gain direct admission to a master's program, depending on the English placement level and speed of progress in academic English courses.

1The International Programs English placement test is required upon arrival. The result of the test will determine the amount of ESL needed for each applicant. Students who place into Level 7 on arrival will be advised to enter IGSPP ACP or ACCESS Tracks.

Advancement to IGSPP ACCESS or ACP Track

Students in the IGSPP Fundamentals have the opportunity to maximize their education investment by advancing to IGSPP - ACP Track or  IGSPP - ACCESS Track to continue to increase their academic success and better adapt to the academic culture and expectations of a top graduate school in the U.S. The following conditions must be met in order to progress to either of these content tracks:

  • Graduate from the IGSPP Fundamentals Track with a 3.0 GPA or higher;
  • Achieve a qualifying TOEFL or IELTS score based on desired track:
    • ACP Track: TOEFL iBT 71 / TOEFL PBT 530 / IELTS 6.0
    • ACCESS Track: TOEFL iBT 80 / TOEFL PBT 550 / IELTS 6.5
  • Demonstrate acceptable behavior and academic performance.

Full-Time Study Requirements

A full-time course of study in IGSPP, in compliance with both UC and U.S. immigration requirements, is defined as:

  • Minimum of 18 hours of ESL courses or 12 units of program-related coursework per quarter
  • No more than 4 units or one course per quarter may be taken in an online format.

To successfully complete IGSPP, students must fulfill all program requirements, including maintaining program academic performance standards in ESL, IGSPP, and all other program-related coursework. Students may be dismissed if they fail to meet UC academic and/or behavioral standards: UC Academic Standards / UC Behavioral Standards.

UCI Division of Continuing Education will monitor each student’s academic and personal progress. After each student signs the FERPA Authorization to Release Information to a Designated Third Party, UCI Division of Continuing Education may report student’s performance to designated recipients, including UCI Undergraduate Admissions, the admissions units of other US university campuses, and the student’s parents/guardians.
